Q:I used a razor but it killed the blade in about two seconds. Is there a special saw for this stuff that won't make a huge mess?
Use a utility knife and score it just like you would drywall. Once scored, snap it to break it apart. Even though the blade gets dull it does not require much to snap the cement board.
Q:I want a smoother cut than I will get by scoring and breaking. Would I use an abrasive wheel in a circular saw or a diamond blade?
a diamond blade is good yes, but running it perfectly straight is the difficult part. Make your self a straight edge so your saw or angle grinder can rest against it as your cutting ( say the blade is 50mm from the saw base or angle grinder guard, put your straight edge 50mm away from your line) when it is cut get a piece of cement board and rub it along your cut to achieve a factory finish you could also buy a cement board blad ( it has only 4 teeth and it can fit onto your circular saw,) other then that you can use an angle grinder with a diamond blade.
Q:DO i NEED TO ATTACH CEMENT BOARD ON THE EDGE OF THE COUNTER TOP BEFORE APPLYING THE TILE?
All tile jobs are different and need prep work. Without knowing what your job looks like i will generalize. 1/4 cement board is common for the top but you can use mastic (a premix) for the bull nose or edge pieces. Tape will help hold until dry. Don't use thin set mortar for edge tile. Cement board isn't needed for edge unless you need to make a straighter or taller edge.
Q:is there a spray on cement moisture barrier to use under laminate flooring?
There is no spray on, brush on, or roll on anything that will serve sufficiently as a moisture barrier. You should be painting all concrete floors with cement paint anyway but that is not enough. You need to install a membrane to act as a vapor barrier. It's a good thing anyway because it will make the floor softer to walk on if you're installing the laminate floor directly over the concrete with no sleeper boards.
Q:Is it required to waterproof a basement shower when it sits directly on the cement floor? Can we use cement board on the curb or is it required to use mortor and build it that way?? Can be lay the floor tile directly to the cement floor? Any suggestions will be great?? Thanks
My dad is an architect, and when he designed the showers for his assisted living facility, he didn't use a shower pan. He put tile on the walls (you can get drywall made for bathrooms), and sloped the tile floor slightly, so that when the water splashes on the floor, it runs back into the shower. That way, there's less chance that the residents will trip getting out.
Q:hi, this is my question:To prevent a cement mixer sinking into soft ground, the mixer is placed on a large flat board. Why does this prevent the mixer sinking?the answer will be one of these, which one is it?A The large area decreases the pressure on the ground.B The large area increases the pressure on the ground.C The large area decreases the weight on the ground. D The large area increases the weight on the ground.
the flat board distributes the weight over a larger area, so the pressure per square inch is reduced.
Q:I want to put a cork bulletin board outside my store but it's a cement wall and I do not want to ruin the cement wall.
go buy a tap con kit. It consists of a drill bit for the concrete, concrete screws and a driver. It should only cost a few dollars. drill pilot holes in the cork, drill the concrete and fasten it with the blue screws made for concrete, you may want to paint the screw heads to blend afterward.
Q:This is behind my vinyl siding and above my drop tile ceiling.
It would most likely be asbestos because nobody in there right mind would cover Hardi with vinyl.
Q:I would like to build 4 steps on a incline. It is above a retaining wall but will be a good foot away from the wall all on firm packed dirt. I have a couple questions. One side of the steps would be next to the garage wall.1. Can I pour cement up against the cinder wall?2. If so how would someone build steps form without any boards against the one side. So basically just have the one side and front plate.3. Or would you recommend having a board against the wall. Or pull it out after the form has set?
I would not build those steps directly against the cinder block wall. And here's my reasoning. If you attach those steps without support like rebar, if the house shifts it will shift and crack the steps too. If you use rebar the same thing might happen. I would leave at least a one inch space between the cinder block wall and build an independent form that is separate from the garage wall so it can float kinda like the 1/4 inch float you have when installing a wood floor. It gives it room to move. You can use ply for the form on the garage side and pull it out when the cement is cured enough for the form to be removed. Something to think about
Q:What is the national standard for the thickness and hardness of indoor residential cement?
The choice of the wall will generally consider whether there is sufficient strength and stability, thermal insulation requirements, fire and moisture requirements, sound insulation requirements. The city's building is generally 24 walls or 37 walls, the rural area is generally the majority of 18 walls
