Q:I clean a church and all the cleaners I have tried on the tile floor, leaving it streaky.. Does anyone know of anything that would work? Thanks!
I agree, the half white vinegar and water cant be beat (except for the smell but that will be gone after a little bit). I talked to a person yesterday that used a swiffer on Travertine Tile and now it is dull and streaked and they havent been able to clean it off. I hear this a lot when it comes to the swiffer, but I personally havent used it. I have used an alcohol based cleaner before and it evaporates quickly leaving a streakless floor. But still, for the money vinegar and water cant be beat.
Q:There was actually only a tub there and no shower, so the walls are all plaster. I know that before I tile I need a different backerboard, meaning the plaster goes at least to a point. Any hints, tips, directions, and suggestions on how to do the job?
You dont necessarily need to remove the plaster, but i would recommend removing it. cut the plaster out to half inch short of where you are going to tile to, so that the tile will lap onto the plaster a little. this will get rid of any patching, painting, ect. In the place of the removed plaster, install half inch cement fiberboard, costs around $10 per 3ftX5ft sheet. install with screws every 8 inches on each stud. use mesh tape in joints of fiberboard and float the joints with thinset. i would also recommend using a sealer that is specifically designed for cement fiber board under tile in the shower. dont remember the name off hand, but you can roll or brush it on and it turns bright red when it is dry. then use ceramic tile adhesive to set the tile on the walls. be sure to seal the grout joints in the tile after the grout has set for 3 or 4 days. 2 coats of sealer recommended. you can tell the sealer is working if you put a drop of water on the grout joint after the sealer has had at least 24 hours to dry, if the drop of water stays in a small bead shape then the sealer is doing its job, if the water drop soaks into the grout and darkens it, then the grout needs another coat of sealer. dont know if you are tileing the floor of the shower or using a shower pan , but that is a whole nother issue. any questions email me
Q:i have tiles in my bathroom witch are painted(not me was like that wen i moved in) was wondering if i cud wallpaper or tile over them
Its possible to wall paper over tiles but not recommended. If you don t get the tiles covered properly you ll see the grout joints through the paper. As far as tiling over tile, yes it can be done if certain steps are taken and certain pre cautions. Always best to take out the old, but to answer the question, yes it can be done. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:my tiles i am using are 13 inch, and i am doing a 4x8 wall,so i was wondering which is the best way to adhere it
This Site Might Help You. RE: what is the best ceramic tile adhesive? my tiles i am using are 13 inch, and i am doing a 4x8 wall,so i was wondering which is the best way to adhere it
Q:My husband and I just purchased a condo. We want to retile the bathroom in a more modern looking tile or maybe a marble or some kind of fancy tile. We are going to do it ourselves. Where can we find good prices on the tile?
Now a days your best bet is a Home Depot or a Lowes. I don't know if you have these stores in your area, but the do-it-yourself type stores are really outpricing the mom and pop stores. Hope that helps....if you need it installed you can call one of the smaller mom and pop type stores. They are usually very fair as far as pricing goes. The reason they do not offer the actual tiles as cheap as the bigger stores is because they don't buy the nearly the amount of product as the big guys. If they could, they would. Hope that helps...please check out my question.
Q:I am planning on laying down tile in my dining room and kitchen. I recently saw an offset pattern with 12x12 tiles and liked it. I‘ve now decided to go with the same offset pattern but with 20x20 ceramic tiles. Would I still have to find the center of the room and start tiling out from the center or can I just start at one wall and go from there since i‘ll be using the offset pattern? Thanks in advance.
Not always so with an off set pattern....Because when you start from center on a normal square pattern and you end up w/ a small cut along the wall, you can re center the tile in the room to get a better cut along the wall. Doing this to an off set pattern , won t change that small cut on 1/2 the rows.. It all depends on room lay out and your site lines.. That I can t answer you. Now if you start in the center and do get a good lay out on both sides, then by all means, center the tile.. If you have a long site line on one wall, which is very visible, and cabinets or something different on the opposite wall to break up the pattern, Then you may consider going off that wall w/ a 1/2 tile along that wall.. I m not there to see it but I m good at visual lay outs. Any questions you can e mail me thru my avatar and check my qualifications there GL
Q:I‘m installing 13 x 13 cermic tiles. We‘ve laid the tile to try to configure the best layout. However, the one with the best layout with the easiests cuts leaves one very complicated one. The tile lies directly on the air duct, with the cut being a large rectangular hole in the middle of the tile. If we adjusted the layout to have 2 tiles lay over the duct, it creates more complicated cuts everywhere else. How do you suggest I cut this tile?We have only a wet tile saw.
I would go with the one that falls with one tile on the vent. then, go to Lowe's and pick up a ceramic tile drill bit. they have a bit that is specifically made for drilling through glass and ceramic tile, a masonry bit will crack the tile. they are relatively expensive for a drill bit because they have a relatively flat diamond coated tip. using this bit you can outline the cut with bit holes. if you drill enough holes, you can simply break the center out of the tile. just take your time and drill plenty of holes or you will crack the tile. I think that it would look cool if the duct came directly out of the center of a tile.
Q:I‘m tiling my bathroom shower and need to cut holes for the shower head and body sprayers. I‘m using porcelain tile and I‘m not having any luck cutting the holes. I‘ve bought a couple holes saw bits that say they are for porcelain, but they just don‘t seem to be doing the job. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Q:Specifically wall tiles in a bathroom
I have tiled a lot. I've used both mastic and mortar, but if you plan to use mastic make sure it's the kind for floor tiles. Next, find the center of the room. Mark a chalk line each way. Put down whatever you are going to use to adhere the tile. Place the tile. Make sure it's firmly in place, jiggle a bit but make sure it ends up square. Use the tile spacer of choice (size equals amount of grout) and repeat the process. Remove tile spacers once tile has set but not too long as it will stick too. Let tile set and then grout. Make sure you clean up the grout from the top of the tiles or it will set and ruin the tile. Follow the instructions on the grout carefully. Make sure the sponges don't have too much water in them. It sounds hard, but it's really not. Just time consuming.
Q:My house decoration, the decoration division to pay in the cut tiles, the whole piece of tiles cut on both sides, the rest of the total when the waste thrown. He said it was not straight. Do not you know that you have encountered such a situation? Did he make sense? Is there any way to prove that his operation is in question? Thank you al
in fact, the general brick is no problem, I guess or the master Technical problems, looking for businesses to, in fact, let the business to illustrate the problem, but also to avoid the contradiction between you and the master out.
