Q:I tried cleaning my plastic windows in my truck with water thinking if i wiped it up right away it wouldn't leave any spots but it did... I'm not trying to buy anything expensive and I was under the impression you don't use windex on plastic... Any ideas?
Good idea I Will try my self later Thanks
Q:spruce up by stenciling on them. What sort of pre-clean should I do and what sort of paint will stick to a heavy plastic blind?
Blind or shade? Wash with TSP if its a blind, and use any paint you want, preferably stencil paint. Forget it if it's a shade. Paint will not stick to flexible plastic permanently
Q:I have seen it done both ways.
It would depend on which way is easier to access and which will give you a better seal. one benefit to outside is that you can often extend the plastic on past the window panes easier to be sure you seal air not only from the glass but also from any gaps in woodwork. Either way will be beneficial. I would look at where you will get the best seal and where you will do the least damage to trim etc when you staple it, tape it, or however you choose to adhere it
Q:Can I recycle envelopes if they have plastic windows?
You must remove the plastic window if you want to recycle the envelope because they both go in to different recycling bins
Q:Would a Jeep Wrangler with glass windows be any less noisy than a model with plastic windows?
YES .glass well be less noisy
Q:some jerk took a razor to my passanger window to steal nothing out of my jeep... and now i have a large rip in the window. how would i go about fixing this. and obviously tape will work but i'm hoping there is a better solution. now if i buy replacement windows will the colors match my older somewhat weathered top (black)... i wouldn't mind buying new windows but i dont want my jeep to look weird. thanks
you get windows tinted by the amount of light they allow to pass through. they range from 5%-70% (5% being nearly pitch black). if you can find the tint number on the other windows you may be able to match it if you went to a dealership.
Q:I don't mind if its designed for another brand but I am getting very frustrated because I can't find it on GE's site or any other. I bought the unit without it in hopes I could find one online but can't find the specific one. HELP! The piece is the one that sits in the window to hold the hose in the window. The unit is a Portable AC which means it sits on the floor not in the window so its got specially designed plastic plate piece that is adjustable for your window size.
Measure the window opening and go to a glass place with the hose and have them make you a lexan piece to fit the window with a hole in it. Lexan is very sturdy. You can run a rod straight thru the outside part of hose to keep it in place or tape it. It isn't like some technically expensive part to make. Actually it will probably be better than original. BTW, keep the hose as short as you can as it gets warm and heats the room as the compressor cools it. I had one and the closest I could get was 5 feet and it didn't help at all.
Q:I just had my 30 yr old storm windows replaced with nice double pain, double glazed, argon filled windows in November. HUGE IMPROVEMENT! But now that i am used to comfort level and energy savings that these windows have made to my home. I find myself looking for the tiny amounts of cool air that penetrates into my home. And I still have this habit of wanting to put plastic over my windows. Do you think adding the plastic now would be overkill? Or would the energy savings still out way the cost of the plastic this first week on January?
I think you would be wasting your money. Wait until spring and then go outside and caulk around your windows if you see holes
Q:I really ought to have asked this yesterday. How can I help my plastic-and-duct-tape car window survive a torrential downpour/thunderstorm??? It's the front, passenger-side window, and I can't get the glass replaced until Wednesday. :S What can I do???
You know what they say about Duct tape......Spare the Duct tape spoil the project (Red Green) Get a 5 mil plastic then along with taping it to the inner part of the door, to help keep it dry. put an X pattern on the plastic, this will reinforce it.
Q:Have very little budget to work with, paid Marshall Construction of Kalamazoo to do the roof, haven't seen him since (Even with the contract), windows are in really poor condition and need to be replaced but don't have the funds to do it (Lost job like everyone else in Michigan). I have almost a zero budget to do this thanks to people like Marshall construction. Any suggestions how to get this 900 sqft home to stay warm without the furnace always working?
Plastic on the windows really does work.. I lived in a really old house in Ohio and the windows were so bad that you could feel the cold air coming in... We used the window kits and it really kept the heat in ! We also used some plastic opaque sheeting on the outside windows which didn't look too great on the outside but, it helped greatly. Also, in our basement we have a device hooked up to our dryer.. It looks like a standard dryer hose but, instead of blowing all the nice hot air outside it's got a fine mesh screen and it blows the hot air back inside the house.. GREAT for when you are doing laundry. We also use a newer style baseboard heater in our main living room/family room. We bought the heater a few summers ago when it was on clearance..It's very safe and energy efficient. I also use heavy curtains to keep heat in a particular room. We keep our thermostate at around 60-64 degrees.... In our new house it's a 1700 square ft. ranch.. We are fortunate enough to have a wood burning stove.. Which has cut our gas bill in half ! Good luck
