Clean, and then put it under the sun
I'm on a tight budget, so I can't afford an area rug. But I'd like one in a half-moon shape with my bed on top. Would there be any problems making a sort of decorative-rug out of fabric from someplace like Jo-annes? Just sew and go, right? And if there's not some glaring oversight I'm missing in that idea, what sort of fabric? Upholstery? Outdoors? Quilting?
I've seen rugs quilts made from strips of material I think they are gorgeous totally different than everything else that's on the market today! Someone has used a bit of initiative thought of a different item to decorate the home. Before I got married my intended wife were on a tight budget between us we made a woollen rug from wool - It was a dusty job for a sensitive nose, but got there in the end it adorned our home for many years it was my pride joy for making it I'm a bloke! If you can make a fabric rug in much the same manner as i did looping the fabric within itself, as I did with the wool, you will be able to make a lovely rug I'm sure! Cheers!
I was wondering how shark steam mop performed on carpets. does it remove stains and spots?
I don't own one, but they appear to be designed for hard flooring such as tile and linoleum. There's only a cloth at the bottom where the steam passes through. I think you'd really be struggling trying to use one on carpet. A better alternative would be a carpet cleaner, Bissell and Hoover are both good brands. Expect to pay $150-300 and up. But for a budget, I love the Little Green Machine by Bissell which is much smaller. Don't try to clean an entire carpeted area with it or you'll be exhausted! But it's great for cleaning upholstery and for picking up spills on carpet, and doesn't take up a lot of storage space. Costs around $100 and you can get it at WalMart and many other retailers. Then if you need to do your whole carpet, you can rent an extractor for around $25 (check with your local supermarket, they probably rent Rug Doctor, etc.). You can get the job done in a day and not have a bulky machine taking up valuable closet space the rest of the year.

If it is alkaline, try white vinegar to neutralize
i want to shampoo my carpet using over the counter items?? how do i start with it?
For heavily soiled carpets, shampooing is recommended, rather than spot-cleaning. Wet-cleaner machines spray and remove hot detergent solution while cleaning the carpet. Instructions Difficulty: Moderately Easy Steps Step One Purchase or rent a wet-cleaner machine also known as a steamer, at a hardware or grocery store. When you rent a machine, the necessary cleaning products are usually included or can be purchased at the rental store. Step Two Vacuum the floor thoroughly. Step Three Spray heavily soiled areas with prespray or traffic-lane cleaner. For really dirty areas, increase the amount of prespray used instead of increasing the amount of carpet shampoo. Step Four Fill the machine's hose or reservoir with hot tap water. Step Five Use the machine and carpet shampoo according to the steamer manufacturer's instructions. Step Six Maximize the amount of water removed from the carpet by making a water-extraction pass with the water spray on, and then again with the spray off. Test the carpet with your hand. If your hand comes away with water droplets, extract again with the spray off; if your hand comes away damp and the carpet feels wrung out, you have extracted correctly. Step Seven Wait overnight for the carpet to dry before walking on it. To dry thoroughly, open windows and use fans. Tips Warnings * Special solutions are available to treat pet stains and odors. * To help your cleaning last longer, neutralize detergent residue left on the carpet by steaming with a vinegar-water rinse made up of 1 c. vinegar and 1 gallon water. * Oversaturating the carpet can cause water to soak through and damage the floor underneath.
I am looking for the best carpet cleaner for cheap apartment carpeting, that I can use with my steam cleaner, I have asked this question, but I'm getting answers for just applying it to the stain and wiping it away, when accually I want to mix it in with water and use it with the carpet cleaner. The stains consist of dirt, pet stains, and other build up, please if you know of anything that works well, answer.
Simple solution actually has a carpet cleaning shampoo that works pretty well, I think most of the carpet shampoos are about the same. I have found that using the stuff for stains first (like resolve) and then cleaning the carpet with the machine works better and gets the carpet cleaner. Also from time to time to clean my carpets with my machine I will add a little bleach with the carpet shampoo. It does help.
we have some stains on the carpet and wanted to now if we could use zout on the carpets????????
. Can Zout? stain remover be used on carpet or upholstery? A. We do not suggest using Zout? on upholstery or carpet because, as a super concentrated surfactant based product, it needs to rinse thoroughly. When not rinsed properly, soap will collect dirt. If Zout? has been used on upholstery or carpet, rinse until no soapsuds appear using a wet/dry vacuum or a carpet/upholstery cleaning machine. So that's a no.
