Is it required to waterproof a basement shower when it sits directly on the cement floor? Can we use cement board on the curb or is it required to use mortor and build it that way?? Can be lay the floor tile directly to the cement floor? Any suggestions will be great?? Thanks
My dad is an architect, and when he designed the showers for his assisted living facility, he didn't use a shower pan. He put tile on the walls (you can get drywall made for bathrooms), and sloped the tile floor slightly, so that when the water splashes on the floor, it runs back into the shower. That way, there's less chance that the residents will trip getting out.
Standard cement prefabricated board load capacity is a square how many kilograms, thank you
Prefabricated floor is generally hollow board, crack is a common quality, the overall poor, the advantage is the floor thick, sound better than the cast. Many places prefabricated boards are off, but are not forced. Or according to the actual situation around, economic conditions, the general type of building to segment the solution.
Gypsm plaster is recommended in Christopher Alexander's Pattern Language (#235 Soft Inside Walls) If I were to go to a building supply store and ask for gypsum plaster would they know what I was talking about? ...Is it a universal term? Can you give me a chemical formula?
Gypsm is hydradated pulverized limestone. You would ask for Gypsym topcoat or Gypsm tape adhesive in the Drywall department of Lowes. It costs today $9.95 for a 5 gallon pail of the stuff. Gypsm is resoluable in water after drying. In other words you can redissolve gypsm in water. Gypsm is mined in the US in states like Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and so on. It is a naturally occuring substance. Plaster of Paris is unhydrated form of lime. When wetted with water it changes chemically and remains hard no matter if submerged into water. The process is irreversible. Cement is made from clay and limestone fired to high temperatures, then ground and pulverized. When water is added to cement it changes its chemistry and the water reacts with cement forming a new compound It is irreversible The Romans invented Cement. Common Drywall is gypsm between 2 layers of paper enclosure. There are also metal lath in 26x84 inch lenghts and plaster board lath in 16x36 inch lengths Those all above are nailed or glued to the house studs.

Is the cement fiber outer wall plate affected by the blisters?
In particular, the water absorption of the sheet is very important, especially asbestos-free, the density is inversely proportional to the water absorption, the higher the water absorption, the lower the density, the resistance to freezing and thawing and stability The worse, the easier it is to stratify,
I've put up my cement board walls now not sure what 2 use on it as a thin coat? I am not going 2 put tile on just want a textured cement look. Also is there a metalic type paint I can use on cement? I'm looking for options in my new shower area. There is a wax or plastic also that looks like it was a type of tile adhesive that I don't know how to get off before I stain or paint the concrete. Any suggestions on how to get it off? Can I use spray paint on the concrete in a shower area? Thank you
Cement backer board is okay but probably a bit of over kill for most applications since the backsplash really doesn't get wet in most kitchens. In our last house the tile was applied to common drywall and worked just fine for the 25 years we lived in the house. Our current house has green drywall board which is more moisture resistant than common drywall but is not waterproof like cement board.
Sorry for the double post, this is an addendum to my previous question. I am planning to re-tile the downstairs foyer. Since it's on the 1st floor of a townhouse with no basement I think there's cement slab underneath, but if I need backer board I need to purchase and make arrangements to cut (I don't own a saw yet). I'd like to take a couple tiles off to check, but how can I tell the difference between the two?
If you're laying tile on a concrete slab, you don't need to add anything, just lay the tile directly on the slab. You will need a cement-fiber board for vertical surfaces like walls. I like the Hardie products.
Hi everybody! I just installed hardibacker boards in my bathroom. But I had to remove 1 pc 'coz I made a mistake. Can I still use it again? I screwed it every 8 inches around the edges and along every stud. Can I just cover the holes with thinset? Thanks!
I would roll red guard over all the sheets it is an elastomeric coating and it is a moisture barrier and tile over that.Red guard is available at tile showrooms and home improvement places and should be used anyways and will fill in the holes in that sheet and seal all the seams.
